The basse de cromorne is the bass of the one-keyed hautboy family also called cromorne which appeared in France at the end of the 1640s. It is a baritone or low tenor hautboy in D, one octave lower than the dessus.

This instrument is a personal reconstruction after the Arazzo-Gobelins tapestry and the engraving in frontispiece of the Borjon de Scellery "TraitÚ de la musette".
